In depth

Verdict

With the high numbers possibly holding an advantage in this sprint, we will side with Sir Desmond here, with his main dangers possibly proving to be General Feeling and Mandarin Spirit. Sir Desmond is proving pretty consistent and, because he remains on a competitive mark, can be given a chance from stall 10. He is also one of only three course and distance winners in the race and should strip fitter for his fair recent Doncaster run. General Feeling is now just three pounds above the mark from which he won over course and distance last month so he too has to be respected, while fellow course and distance winner, Marker, is edging back towards a winning rating, but he has to contend with stall 6. Mirasol Princess has a reasonable draw and is on a competitive mark, but all of her winning form so far has been at the minimum trip. Hurricane Coast will need to transfer his all-weather best to Turf to feature, while Mandarin Spirit, who has been skillfully placed to win three of his last five races, has proven that he can be competitive from his current mark too. All things considered, though, having taken that view of the draw, we are happy to be siding with Sir Desmond.
