In depth

Verdict

Little Eye goes well here and is selected ahead of Lyrical Way, Silverhay and Doctored in a tricky race to assess. Doctored is holding his form well at present and has dropped several hints that he can continue to pay his way this term. However, he is also creeping up the weights and, as he has never won off a mark this high before, he may again have to settle for a minor role. Silverhay also comes into the reckoning on recent form and it will not be surprising to see him as a popular choice in the betting ring. However, he is hard to win with and also appears to need a little help from the handicapper. Lyrical Way made the most of an attractive mark when scoring at Brighton in May. He is 6lb higher in the weights but cannot confidently be ruled out in his current frame of mind. However, the vote goes to Little Eye, who has the benefit of experience of the tack to draw from. Any ease in the ground will not be a problem for the John Best-trained gelding and he can gain compensation for last week's narrow reversal if he gets the breaks in running this evening.
