Verdict

TOP TIGRESS gets a speculative vote to beat Dane Cottage here although Queen Of Wands may go well at a price. The last-named ran well in a maiden here two starts back and appears fairly treated off 65. She should be better over this trip too but has since disappointed at Warwick despite being expected to enjoy the softer surface she encountered there. With that in mind she arrives under a cloud and we're inclined to take a chance on Top Tigress instead. Sir Michael Stoute's handicap debutant takes a significant step up in trip here but is expected to improve for it. Her half-brother Worth A King's certainly did, working his way up the handicap ranks from a mark of 70 to 86, and we're hopeful she can follow the family tradition. Dane Cottage isn't to be dismissed despite being 4lbs higher than when third at Lingfield last time. That day she was given plenty to do over a shorter trip but stayed on well, suggesting this step up in distance would see her in a better light, and perhaps the stronger handling of David Probert can help her to find more. Fastback took fifth in a stronger contest at Sandown last time but may have been flattered by that, having been best placed in a race run to suit those who showed up prominently. That said, it was her first start for Ralph Beckett and indeed for over six months so she can be expected to improve. Little Oz steps up in trip for her handicap debut and should improve for that, however being out of a Saddler's Wells mare she may want cut in the ground and is opposed with that in mind. Choral Festival is a turf maiden who again may want it slightly softer; she's not really threatened to win in this sort of company of late and looks held, while Shianda would only be of interest if strong support arrived. Top Tigress is chanced in the penultimate handicap.
