In depth

Verdict

A poor claimer here where Red River Rock should prove too good, with Mount Ephram and Veneer earmarked to go well. The selection ran well over course and distance when fourth, beaten just a length, in October, although he was a shade disappointing last time out when also in maiden company. Nevertheless he has plenty in hand here on official ratings, and he really has to just produce either of those sorts of efforts to have a winning chance. Mount Ephram can be on hand to take the prize if the selection does not fire. 3lb higher than when winning in this company over course and distance last month, he has a stinker to overcome last time out, but if he back in the right frame of mind he can be thereabouts. Another to have a look at is Veneer. Richard Hannon's gelding was also thrashed in the same race as same seller as Mount Ephram last time, when there was little between the pairing. First-time blinkers may do the trick here and he is respected, but we take Red River Rock to be good enough.
