In depth

Verdict

A particularly poor event filled with mainly disappointing types and the suggestion to small stakes is for Patientes Virtis with Allenwood and The Leather Wedge appearing as the only serious rivals. Gay Kelleway has her team in excellent heart at present and the selection added to the tally when landing a competitive handicap over six furlongs here late last month. The drop back to the minium trip shouldn't pose a problem for this pacey performer and the daughter of Lion Cavern can overcome a 5lb penalty under her very capable apprentice rider. Allenwood is still a maiden but handles this surface and ran well enough in a similar contest at Leicester last month to suggest he can go close on these terms. The Leather Wedge has strong claims on the pick of last year's form but has been well below his best of late and, despite being well in at the weights, looks worth opposing on this occasion with the in-form Patientes Virtis.
