In depth

Verdict

A poor contest where we will tentatively suggest KIRSTYS LAD to get the better of Josiah Bartlett, Kielty's Folly and Tamino. The last-named shoulders a 6lb penalty today for a one-length success over 6f at Lingfield last time. His only previous attempt to stay a mile was unconvincing and so we will take him on with that penalty on grounds of stamina. Josiah Bartlett's sole win was over 7f. He is capable from this sort of mark, but he is also not a guaranteed stayer. There will be no problems on that score for Kielty's Folly, who was just held over course and distance last month, and from just 1lb higher today has a chance of breaking his duck. Davana should remain competitive from this mark, but there is no obvious reason why she will finish any nearer to winning than on her last two starts, so we'll chance Kirstys Lad. Martin Mullineaux's seven-year-old gets on well with Greg Fairley, and has run with plenty of credit over course and distance on his last two starts. From the same mark of 46 again today, he may just be up to the task.
