In depth

Verdict

JACKIE BOY has shown improved form in recent starts for Nigel Twiston-Davies and with the softer ground today likely to suit the 10-year-old he looks the one to beat and gets the vote over Balrath Leader and Decree Nisi. Peter Kelsall's gelding was well held on his debut over fences in a beginners' chase here but he is likely to do better now sent handicapping and has to be respected. Good Harvest ran creditably on his debut for Jonjo O'Neill at Fontwell last time but needs to improve to trouble the judge, while Cool Cliche is hard to recommend on recent efforts but may do better on the softer surface today. Richard Lee's Backfromthecongo disappointed at Newton Abbot when last seen in June but earlier form was solid and he cannot be discounted, while David Pipe's Phoenix Des Mottes was well held on his first start over fences at Bangor last month and is is hard to recommend. Gavin Cromwell's Balrath Leader won well in a point-to-point recently and she makes plenty of appeal back over regulation fences following that effort but preference is for Jackie Boy, who is well treated and has conditions to suit.
