      In depth

      Verdict

Smuglin, Northern Lad and Bury Lodge are the three for the shortlist here, and Smuglin can fulfil the promise of a fine debut. Smuglin ran well on a more testing surface to finish a close third on his debut. He was not unfancied on that occasion, and being a son of Sir Harry Lewis, the quicker ground here looks sure to suit. He has the best form in the field and is hard to oppose. Northern Lad belied his huge starting price when running a blinder to be third on his Haydock debut, but was a slight disappointment next time. He has been off the track for six months and is taken on. Coming from the Brendan Powell yard, Bury Lodge was sent off an outsider for his debut two weeks ago, but shaped with promise, not beaten far. It would be no surprise to see him hit the frame. Smuglin looks to have an outstanding chance of getting off the mark.
