In depth

Verdict

This looks a quite a hot maiden with Financial Future already having a handicap mark of 82, and he, along with Bendarshan, Highland Games and Timber Ice are the ones for the shortlist, with Highland Games getting the nod. Sir Michael Stoute's colt, who is a half-brother to the top-class Golan, caught the eye at the Craven Meeting where he shaped well, despite needing both the experience and the run and although he has plenty to do to turn around the form with Financial Future, who was four and a half lengths ahead of him that day, this trip looks almost certain to bring about plenty of improvement and he is taken to score. Financial Future already had the benefit of a couple of outings before going to Newmarket and may not be open to as much improvement as the selection, but he is from a stable in good form and cannot be discounted. Runner-up on both outings to date, Bendarshaan certainly deserves a change of fortune. However, this may be too competitive for him and he may have to wait until he goes handicapping before he gets off the mark. Timber Ice, who went off third favourite for a back-end maiden at Headquarters last year, is certainly better than she showed there and it would come as no surprise to see this well bred filly take a hand in this.
