In depth

Verdict

Two newcomers hailing from bigger yards while a number bring promise to the table which in total make this a very interesting little heat. The filly Rio Guru is the selection to put behind a disappointing effort on the Knavesmire where the ground was very deep and she never looked comfortable throughout the contest. Today's ground should be perfect while the fact connections opted to run her in the Cheshire Oaks after one very promising effort in maiden company, from which the form has worked out exceptionally well, reflects the promise she was evidently showing at home. Last Three Minutes hails from a yard whose charges have been showing that a return to form awaits after a spell in the doldrums. He was sent off at large odds for his racecourse debut where he finished fourth in what has subsequently emerged to be a smart maiden. John Gosden's newcomers tend to benefit for their initial racecourse experience so on those grounds we will pass over on Lion Gate although should the market suggest otherwise he would become interesting. His American pedigree is very strong being related to some smart performers. Seventh Cavalry has not progressed from his promising racecourse debut and looks one to avoid although he takes a drop in trip here after not looking the strongest of finishers over 1m 2f. Rio Guru is the pick to land the opener.
