    Verdict

His pedigree and debut effort suggests that Austrian should improve for being stepped up to a mile for the first time and Mark Johnston's colt is taken to open his account at the main expense of Abbondanza and Kyoto Summit. The last mentioned stepped up on his debut effort when finding just Dunelight too good in a Newmarket maiden over this trip last month and has to be respected. Jidaar showed only a modicum of ability first time out but should improve for today's longer trip although he looks the second string of Mark Johnston's two runners. Speedy Sam was a creditable second at Ayr on his debut but this looks tougher and of more interest may be Mick Channon's Rajaall, who should appreciate the return to a mile having failed to stay nine furlongs at Goodwood last time. Spell Casting needs to improve on the form of his debut and a bigger threat is likely to come from Abbondanza, who was a promising third in a decent Hamilton maiden last month but hails from the Howard Johnson stable that has been quiet of late. The vote then goes to Austrian, who ran well over an inadequate trip first time out and should improve for the longer trip.
