Verdict

Andrew Balding won this with Brief Encounter in 2009 and the twice-raced Baptist is one to keep an eye on as he makes his return. Shropshire won easily on his racecourse debut and faced very stiff tasks subsequently in the Gimcrack here and the Greenham on his reappearance. He makes his handicap debut and will find these less taxing opposition. Richard Fahey complicates matters by saddling Chiswick Bey, whose two victories have come on soft going, and Common Touch, who was just caught over Beverley's stiff 7f last time. ICEBLAST has been making very good progress and overcame trouble in-running to score comfortably over 6f at Thirsk. James Sullivan is excellent value for his claim and the combination can complete a double from a fair mark.
