    Verdict

Richard Fahey won this a year ago with the long odds-on Sir Reginald but this is much more competitive. The well-connected SWISS SPIRIT was strongly supported to make a winning debut at Newmarket and very nearly succeeded, only finding Democretes too strong after running a little green at the furlong pole. It will take a good effort to lower his colours here. Verse Of Love, who wasn't far behind, had the advantage of an earlier run and appears unlikely to reverse the form. Dicky Mint came up against a nice type in Parc De Launay at Ripon and should improve again while Richard Fahey's very speedily-bred Ventura Spirit could prove best of the newcomers.
