Verdict

Alfred Hutchinson won this last year from 8lb lower and looked in need of the run on his reappearance at Haydock. Always Smile completed a hat-trick in her first three starts before just failing to hold on in a Listed handicap at Royal Ascot. She hasn't run subsequently but could prove potentially high-class. Third Time Lucky had a brilliant second season culminating in a battling victory over MASTER THE WORLD (NAP) in the Cambridgeshire. He's 7lb higher and has his first run since but has to be on the shortlist though the runner-up should take his revenge on the revised terms and, with the benefit of a recent run, is taken to land this nice prize. Donncha just failed to concede Lord Of The Rock 6lb in the Spring Mile at Doncaster and there's nothing between the pair on similar terms while Balty Boys had Hors De Combat 3l behind in a Listed contest at Haydock and is only 2lb worse off.
