In depth

Verdict

The Tatling gets the confident vote in the King's Stand Stakes with Var, Avonbridge, Boogie Street and Celtic Mill rated as the main dangers. The selection won this race last year when beating Cape of Good Hope and according to his trainer Milton Bradley he is as good as ever going into this year's race. He was a little disappointing last time at Sandown when fifth behind Celtic Mill in the Temple Stakes, but his trainer blamed himself for that defeat saying that he had not done enough work with him and he wasn't ready to do himself justice. He travelled well but just ran out of steam in the closing stages that day, but he should be spot-on for this and he will take plenty of beating. Cape of Good Hope is a high class sprinter who is equally at home over the minimum trip or 6f. He is ultra-consistent but he does look to have a little to find today to reverse last year's placings with our selection. Var finished behind The Tatling in the Temple Stakes but clearly needed the outing on his seasonal reappearance. He is sure to benefit from that run and there was little between them when they met at Longchamp and Newbury last year, so he is certainly respected. Avonbridge had Celtic Mill behind him when winning at Newmarket back in April. They are both capable of going well here today but the likelihood is that they will be outclassed in this company. Granted Celtic Mill beat The Tatling last time but as Milton Bradley's charge needed the run that day, it will be a big surprise to us if he is able to do so again today. Boogie Street was sixth in this race last year so he is not without a chance, but he lacks the speed of some of his rivals and we are happy to return to The Tatling who looks the one to be with once again.
