Only one favourite has won this in the past nine years, Bryan Smart's Captain Gerrard in 2007. The Hambleton trainer has a fine chance of a repeat here with Excelette, Still on the upgrade, she beat all bar Kohala in the Listed St Hugh's Stakes at Newbury last week and looks a major threat to all. My Propeller was the easiest winner of the season when slamming her rivals in a Pontefract maiden but found things very different when stepped into Group 2 company for the Cherry Hinton at Newmarket. She couldn't build a big lead there and faded but this is a much easier track and she may hang on for longer. Vocational also blasts from the stalls and takes some catching though she weakened quickly in the Molecomb at Goodwood while dual C&D winner Last Bid was soon done with at Haydock. GUSTO showed promise and plenty of pace on his debut over 6f at Salisbury and was a very impressive winner over that trip on good to soft ground at Haydock. The drop to the minimum shouldn't be a problem and the stable remains in blistering form.
