A race that has been won by some fair sorts in the past and the first two home certainly look capable of making their mark at Listed level at least whilst King Of Jazz can be given another chance. NAQSHABBAN had given one or two slight problems at the stalls and was noticeably green in the race itself. He was switched in behind Joviality and King Of Jazz from the start and was the last to play his hand under Kieren Fallon. He took a while to get organised when asked to go about his work but Fallon soon had the gelding straightened out and he responded well to a couple of taps from the whip to pick up and make ground under hands driving and he was, ultimately, well on top on the line. The trainer mentioned the Hampton Court Stakes as a long term plan but will look to find another conditions race or a Listed contest beforehand. The filly, Joviality, was receiving weight from her rivals and improved on the form she showed in one run in a backend maiden at Newmarket. She travelled well and quickened from the front without being given too hard a time of things but was no match for the winner. She has an Oaks entry though wouldn't be certain to get that trip on paper and she's also in the Coronation Stakes. King Of Jazz pulled too hard for the first part of the race and Richard Hughes took him out to the middle of the track, away from his rivals, in order to get him settled before switching back to the pack and making the running. He could only stay on at the onepace but those early exertions may have told on his first attempt at this trip. Nordic Spruce had won over six furlongs on debut but was readily outpaced by the principals shaping as though well worth a try over further with this run under her belt.
