Boo Weekley has revealed he would happily give up professional golf if he could earn similar financial reward from his beloved hunting and fishing.
The 35-year-old Florida native is one of golf's more colourful characters but has become a media favourite for his quirky, unconventional attitude to the game.
Indeed, he produced arguably the most memorable moment of America's Ryder Cup victory at Valhalla in September when he produced his own take on the Kentucky Derby by galloping off the first tee in Sunday's singles matches with his driver between his legs.
Weekley has now added to his eccentric reputation by admitting he would walk away from the pro ranks if he could secure his future by hunting.
Asked if he would give up golf if he had that opportunity, he stated: "No hesitating. There is nothing like it. It's hard to explain, unless you just hunt and fish for a living, or you do it as much as me."
Sparkling
However, the unusual persona often overshadows just how fine a player Weekley is and the world number 44 enjoyed a superb 2008.
Finishing 20th on his Masters debut, the American clinched his second professional title as he defended his Verizon Heritage in April and then played a starring role as America regained the Ryder Cup in Kentucky.
Weekley admits his sparkling form at Valhalla has now convinced him he can compete against the very best in the world.
"It's been a great year overall," he added.
"Getting the opportunity to play in the Ryder Cup and getting my second win back at my home golf course. Playing in my first Masters, it's been one heck of a year.
"I really found out I can compete at any level I want to compete at. I just got to get my mind right to get out there and do it.
"I played probably the best golf of my life at the Ryder Cup. If I could ever find my way of getting back to there, I would probably win ten times a year like Tiger Woods."
