Tyron Krost is crowned the champion at the Aussie Millions Main Event
The Aussie Millions Main Event trophy will be spending another year in its homeland as Tyron Krost wins the title. 23-year old Australian has ensured that the Aussie Millions Main Event trophy stays Down Under after emerging victorious at the Crown Casino in Melbourne. Krost, who outlasted a final table including Sorel Mizzi, Annette Obrestad and Peter Jetten, eventually defeated Frederick Jensen heads-up to lock up the $ 2,000,000 AUD payday. The tournament is the strongest to be held in the Southern Hemisphere and this year once again saw the best in the world descend on Melbourne. Phil Ivey, Tom Dwan, Erik Seidel, Chris Ferguson and 2005 World Series of Poker champion and home favourite Joe Hachem all came but failed to make an impression on the tournament which eventually saw a final table dominated by young players hungry to win their first title. Of course, that wasn't the case for Annette Obrestad, who had already won one tournament in the Aussie Millions series just weeks before. Winning two titles in the same year proved to be a mission impossible for the young Norwegian though, bowing out in 7th after her AJ couldn't outrun the pocket sevens of the eventual champion. One player who was hungry to score his first major live title was Sorel Mizzi. Having come agonisingly close at not one but two WSOP Omaha events (Vegas 2009 and London 2008), Mizzi took a monstrous chip lead into the final table but failed to convert the advantage into the title he clearly craves. However, the third place finish for $ 715,000 is the largest cash in his young and promising career to date. With the elimination of Mizzi in third, it was left to Krost and Jensen to battle it out for the title. The final hand played itself, with both players flopping top pair on a Kc-3h-2d board but Jensen's six kicker behind to Krost's Ks-9d. With the turn and river bringing the harmless 7h and 2c respectively, it was the young Australian who would end up lifting the trophy and winner's cheque.
