Ukrainian foward released to make way for Canadian's return
Canadian forward Cory Morgan has re-signed for the Newcastle Vipers, forcing the club to release Sergiy Rublivsky.
Morgan has scored 42 goals in his two previous spells on Tyneside and he should now link-up with the squad in time for the weekend's trips to take on the Basingstoke Bison and Coventry Blaze.
But Elite League rules dictate that clubs can have a maximum of 10 active imported players on their books so coach Rob Wilson has had to let former Hull Stingrays forward Rublivsky, nicknamed Ruby, leave.
Quality
Wilson said: "Ruby came in and has done a good job for us. However, with Morgs coming back someone had to be released. It's sad but that's how the system works.
"It's no secret that I've been looking for a centreman for a while to go with David Longstaff and Jeff Hutchins' line. The player market is really quiet so it was a waiting game really.
"When Cory told me he was interested in playing here again it was a good fit for all concerned - he knows a lot of the team, the city and the fans, so he can come straight in and get to work.
"Adding a player of Cory's calibre to any lineup at this time of the season is a great boost, and I can't wait to get the team back together."
The Vipers are enjoying a nine-day break ahead of their next league fixture, but they will take on Coventry in a Best of British challenge game on Wednesday, featuring just four overseas players on each side.
