Lyle's goaltending deputy to start the Korea match

Scottish goaltender Stephen Murphy is set to get his chance for Great Britain in the World Championship on Wednesday night. The Dundee-born netminder has been selected to start the team's match with Korea on Wednesday after playing second fiddle to Belfast Giants star Stevie Lyle in Slovenia last year and Austria so far in 2008. GB coach Paul Thompson hopes Murphy will stake a meaningful claim for his future in the GB net as the team looks to boost its position in division one, group A. "Stephen has been brilliant, both last year and this, it must not be the best of situations for a player to come all this way, practice every day and see little ice time come game day," Thompson said. "Stevie Lyle has been our starter, but it's important that we play all the guys and this is Murphy's chance to show us what he has and stake a claim for rest of the Championship and the games with Kazakhstan and Holland. "This style of hockey suits Stephen, he is a quick agile goalie, he moves well and reacts quickly. The rest of the squad have huge confidence in him. "I'm looking for Stephen to show me how much he wants to play, I think we will get a stand out performance from him and from then on who knows what will happen."
