James Donaldson is ready prove himself at new club Hull KR and nail down the number 13 position in the side next season.
Donaldson recently joined Rovers on a two-year deal after leaving relegated Bradford Bulls. And the 23-year-old loose forward is relishing the battle ahead for a starting spot in Chris Chester’s side when training resumes in November.
Donaldson told the club’s official website: “I’ll be trying my best to make the loose forward position my own.
“It’s going to be really tough, going up against forwards with a lot of experience. I’ll have to fight for my place but I’ve had to do that all my career.
“I’ve had injuries in the past which have set me back and put me to the bottom of the pile but I’ve always worked hard in training to regain my place. I have no problems with having to prove myself.
“It would be a dream start to get the number 13 shirt, I’m definitely not expecting it but I’ll be doing all I can to nail it down.”
Boot camp
Rovers’ intensive pre-season training will include an army boot camp in Scotland, which Donaldson thinks will be good as the players get back to basics.
He added: “I’m really looking forward to it. It gets the best out of the players and it will be interesting to see how we all cope without the massages and all the other extra stuff.
“We need a really big pre-season to make sure we get the rewards at the end of it. We’ve added really well to the backs, whilst Tyrone McCarthy and I have been added to the pack, and I think we’ll see a few more faces come in.
“The coaching staff have seen me play a number of times but they haven’t seen how I train. Hopefully, once they get to know me and see the type of player I am, they will see how much I’ve got to offer.”
