Castleford head coach Daryl Powell has signed a new four-year contract that will keep him with the Tigers until the end of 2020.

The former Leeds and Featherstone boss was less than halfway through the five-year deal he signed in the summer of 2014 but both he and the club were happy to commit to an extension.

Castleford chief executive Steve Gill said: "On behalf of (chairman) Ian Fulton and the board of directors I am pleased to announce that our head coach Daryl Powell has agreed a new four-year deal with the Castleford Tigers.

"Daryl has been very instrumental in the progress of our club in the past few years and the reward of a new four-year contract reflects the trust and belief we have in him to bring silverware back to our great club."

Castleford's Paddy Flynn (third left) is congratulated by Paul McShane (15) on scoring a try.

Since taking over from Ian Millward during the 2013 season, Powell has taken the Tigers to the 2014 Challenge Cup final and top-five finishes in Super League in each of the last three years.

Powell, 51, said: "Although I signed a five-year contract a few years ago there was a get-out clause at the end of next season which both the club and myself wanted to get rid of.
