Wildcats stand-off makes move to Championship side Barrow

Jamie Rooney has left Super League side Wakefield Wildcats to join Co-operative Championship side Barrow on loan until the end of the season. The 29-year-old suffered a huge health scare earlier this year when his heart stopped during routine knee surgery, but thankfully he survived and made a return to the sport. However, the stand-off Rooney has since had a limited role in the Wildcats' season so far, making just three appearances in Super League. Rooney hopes to get back into the game by getting some playing time down in the Championship with Barrow. He will go straight into the Raiders' squad for their Championship clash against Toulouse at Craven Park on Thursday. Barrow chairman Des Johnston said: "I am delighted to have secured Jamie's services, he is a class act and has a proven record. "I have been chasing him for several weeks. "Wakefield have a number of quality half-backs at their disposal and I have finally persuaded John Kear and the Wakefield board to part with one of them." Rooney, who began his career at Featherstone, joined Wakefield in 2002 and has made four appearances for England.
