Sky Academy Sports Scholarships: Jessica Judd second at Diamond League meet

Jessica Judd was in action at the Diamond League meeting in Eugene, Oregon on Friday.
The 19-year-old had spent four weeks in the United States leading up to the meet and fared well as she posted a time of 2:02.28 to finish second in the USATF HP 800m behind Justine Fedronic of France (2:01.50).
It was a good start for Judd in what was her first race of note this season following a back injury that saw her miss the entirety of the indoor season.
Her time was almost three seconds off her personal best but with it being so early in the youngster’s season it was an encouraging result ahead of two major championships this summer.
Scholars round-up
Elsewhere, Olivia Breen competed at the Bedford International Games in both the 100m and the long jump.
The Paralympic bronze medallist put in a strong performance in the 100m on Saturday as she came third behind Charnwood’s Sophie Hahn (13.05s) and Erin McBride (13.28s) in a time of 13.47 seconds.
The following day Breen returned for the long jump and leapt to a wind-assisted distance of 4.08 metres, a personal best.
BMX rider Quillan Isidore was also in action in the Junior Men’s category of the BMX European Championships.
The weekend saw the seventh and eighth stages of the championships with the Sky Academy Sports Scholar putting in a creditable performance to reach the quarter-finals on Saturday.
Sunday was somewhat of a disappointment for the 17-year-old from Peckham as a crash and two ‘poor performances,’ as described them on his Twitter account, saw him exit proceedings early.
Isidore will look to bounce back in the coming weeks with UCI BMX World Cup in Berlin and the next two rounds of the European Championships in Birmingham coming up before the end of the month.
