Joshua vs Klitschko: Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko fight for personalised WBA 'super' title
Tuesday 25 April 2017 16:46, UK
IBF champion Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko will be fighting for a personalised WBA 'super' title in their heavyweight unification clash.
Joshua will make the third defence of his IBF title against Klitschko and the vacant WBA 'super' belt is also at stake in Saturday's showdown at Wembley, live on Sky Sports Box Office.
The WBA are marking the blockbuster bout with a special customised belt, which features images of both fighters.
Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn and Klitschko's manager Bernd Boente have revealed how important the addition of the WBA belt was in negotiations, with both fighters keen to hold two world titles.
"I wanted this fight to be a unification fight, multiple fights on the line, and we got all of those things," said Hearn. "Once the approval came from the WBA, that was the final thing to get it over the line."
Boente added: "That was very important for Wladimir because that had nothing to do with the financial aspect. That was really because Wladimir was a long-time WBA champion.
"For him, that belt was very important - it goes back to the time of Muhammad Ali, who was always Wladimir's idol, therefore this was an important aspect."
