Enzo Maccarinelli will fight legendary Roy Jones Jr in December.

The Welshman will challenge the former pound-for-pound star in Moscow, Russia, although there is no confirmation it will be for a world title.

Maccarinelli will be taking on Jones Jr in his new backyard following the news that he had been granted Russian citizenship on Tuesday, when president Vladimir Putin handed him a passport.

But while he admits he was a big fan of Jones Jr (62-8-KO45), the 35-year-old Swansea man is confident he will beat him.

"Jones was a great great fighter, certainly the best of his era and a fighter that I admired, but that has to be put to one side as I have my job to do and that's to knock him out and win the world title," said Maccarenelli.

"It's incredible how the Russian people have taken Jones, he's like a superstar here, with the media following his every move, it takes the pressure off me because I'm seen as just an opponent for him, but I'm going to pull of a huge shock over here on December 12 and bring the world title back to Wales."

The former WBO cruiserweight champion was looking at fighting for the European light-heavyweight title until promoter Frank Warren came up with the Russian trip to take on Jones Jr.

"I think that Jones will be lifted to another level fighting in front of his new 'home' fans and as my fans know I fight with my heart on my sleeve and give every fight 100 per cent so I think this is going to be really special fight," he said.
