Joshua vs Whyte: Tony Bellew ready to shine against Mateusz Masternak
Wednesday 9 December 2015 14:59, UK
Tony Bellew is determined to make his mark on Saturday night when he takes on Mateusz Masternak for the European cruiserweight title.
The Liverpool fighter (25-2-1-KO16) is unbeaten since challenging unsuccessfully for the WBO world light-heavyweight title against Adonis Stevenson (27-1-KO22) two years ago and is hoping he can propel himself back to the world scene by beating Masternak (36-3-0-KO26) at The O2.
The 33-year-old said: "It's been nearly 12 weeks in camp and I've been in Sheffield and then back home to the children. It's been a long camp and now I'm just looking forward to Saturday night.
"If I was looking to go back down to light-heavyweight right now I'd have to lose two-and-a-half stone and that's not ideal. I'm comfortable and big at the weight now. There are not many cruiserweights bigger than me. We'll find all this out on December 12.
"Masternak is world class. He's very strong, rugged and durable. He does everything well but nothing amazingly. He's just a solid performer. He's similar to me in record. He has more experience but only one genuine loss in my opinion - to Grigory Drozd.
"We're at a crossroads in our careers. He's 28 and I'm 30-plus and we'll see where it leads from here."
