Carl Froch punches harder than Sergey Kovalev, claims their mutual opponent Jean Pascal.

The Canadian is gearing up to face Kovalev (28-0-1-KO25) for a second time this weekend for the WBA 'Super', IBF and WBO light-heavyweight championships having tasted a stoppage defeat to his Russian opponent last March.

Yet Pascal (30-3-1-KO17), claims the most dangerous puncher he faced was in his 2008 defeat to former WBC, WBA and IBF super-middleweight champion Froch.

The most powerful man I've fought is Carl Froch then Sergey in second.

"The most powerful man I've fought is Carl Froch, then Sergey in second," Pascal told ESNews.

Now a Sky Sports expert, Froch (33-2-KO24) persevered over Pascal with a unanimous decision victory in his hometown of Nottingham to claim the then-vacant WBC super-middleweight title.

But Pascal's future was in a heavier weight class and he became WBC light-heavyweight champion a year later until losing that strap to Hopkins in 2011.

The 33-year-old went on to defeat Lucian Bute, another former foe of Froch's, on points but lost his next world title shot via TKO to Kovalev who he will fight again in Montreal this weekend.

"He's not super-smart but he's not dumb," Pascal said about his upcoming opponent.

"It's going to be a great fight, what Sergey brings I'm sure this time we'll be able to keep up with it."
