Anthony Joshua still wants to fight at Vicarage Road with friend and Watford captain Troy Deeney backing him.

The Olympic gold medalist takes on IBF world heavyweight champion Charles Martin, live on Sky Sports Box Office on April 9, at The O2, London.

Joshua has said before he would like an open-air title fight at Premier League Watford's ground in the summer and would still like to see it happen.

"It's probably a bit too small now... I'm joking!" he told Sky Sports. "Of course I would love to do it there, when the weather's a bit warmer.

"I said from the start I wanted to do it, but we have to get this one out of the way first."

Everton fan Tony Bellew is hoping to fight for a world title at Goodison Park in the summer and Deeney believes Watford Football Club would be happy to host the hugely popular Joshua.

The striker and Joshua have become close friends and the Hornets captain and some of his team-mates will be at The O2 to watch the world title fight against Martin.

But Deeney believes Joshua could even be the next British fighter to top the bill at Wembley Stadium, following Carl Froch and George Groves in May 2014, which had 'AJ' on the undercard.

"It would be unbelievable to see Anthony fight at Vicarage Road," he said.

"It's something for him to try and manoeuvre if he wants it, but I'm sure Watford would be very receptive to that and the town of Watford would be too.

"He's not exactly in a bad place filling out the O2 so I think it would definitely have to be something that works financially because if he's a champion of the world, I'm pretty sure he could sell out Wembley."

Deeney and Joshua now train together at Finchley ABC, as can be seen on Wednesday's Behind The Ropes.

The pair have not sparred but the Watford captain couldn't resist a low blow when it came to his friend's football skills.

"I've heard him claim to play a bit of football but I've never seen him myself," said Deeney.

"That's like me claiming I'm a good boxer! It's alright to say it but I don't fancy him on the pitch. He's quick, big and strong, but having seen his penalty on Soccer AM he'd have to play centre-half for me."
