Callum Smith vs Hadillah Mohoumadi: Smith unsurprised by Mohoumadi weight
Friday 1 April 2016 16:25, UK
Callum Smith has shrugged off Hadillah Mohoumadi weighing-in three pounds inside the limit ahead of Saturday's showdown.
European champion Mohoumadi (20-3-1-KO15) tipped the scales at 11st 10lbs 7oz - well inside the 12st-maximum and significantly lighter than the unbeaten Smith (18-0-KO13), who came in at 11st 13lbs 8oz.
Smith told Sky Sports News HQ afterwards: "I don't know what he walks around at. I saw him at the check weigh-ins 30 days ago and he was relatively light then.
"I've done my weight the same way I always do. I bring it down. I don't go too heavy but I bring it down naturally. I've done it right and I feel good so I'm ready to put in a good performance.
"He comes forward and constantly applies pressure. He has got a good defence and his record suggests he's heavy-handed but he's pretty one-paced and I think he struggles with movement so I feel I'm the better boxer and the better puncher.
"I dream of fighting for a world title. One more win and I'll have my shot at that. I can't afford slip-ups and he went the distance with James DeGale, who in my eyes is the man to beat in the division so he has got my full attention.
"I'm the youngest of four boxing brothers so I've always had a lot to live up to. I think it brings out the best in me. My last fight was a big pressure fight and I dealt with it. This is no different and I'll thrive on that."
Elsewhere on the card, Rocky Fielding weighed in at 11st 13lbs 8oz for his clash with Christopher Rebrasse, while Scott Cardle was 9st 8lbs 7oz for his British lightweight title defence against Sean Dodd, who was a pound lighter. Tom Doran and Luke Keeler hit 11st 4lbs 4oz and 11st 5lbs 8oz respectively.
Smith v Mohoumadi tops Saturday's busy bill in Liverpool, with Scott Cardle v Sean Dodd and Rocky Fielding v Christopher Rebrasse also shown on Sky Sports 1 from 8pm.
