Joshua vs Breazeale: Chris Eubank Sr not concerned by Gennady Golovkin threat
Friday 24 June 2016 10:09, UK
Chris Eubank Sr has described Gennady Golovkin as "just another man" and retains total faith that Chris Eubank Jr can dethrone the current WBA, IBO, WBC and IBF world middleweight champion.
Negotiations for a Golovkin fight have already been held ahead of Eubank Jr's British title defence against Tom Doran at The O2 on Saturday night, live on Sky Sports Box Office.
The unbeaten Kazakh is one of the sport's most destructive fighters, with a daunting record of 32 stoppages in 35 wins.
But Eubank insists his son has learned valuable lessons from a points defeat to Billy Joe Saunders and there is "no way" he should lose against the middleweight king.
"I was hearing some critics saying 'I wouldn't be so surprised if junior does beat him'. I wouldn't be surprised. There is no way he is supposed to lose to Golovkin, no way.
"The same with [Billy Joe] Saunders. No way he was supposed to lose to Saunders. He gave away the first six rounds. He's not going to do that anymore. These men are in danger - that's my view.
"My credibility is on the line. Am I talking nonsense? No. When you have my type of background and my type of accomplishments in boxing, you just cannot say that I don't know what I'm talking about."
Golovkin has shown few weaknesses on his destructive path through the division, ruthlessly halting the dangerous Canadian David Lemieux and the British duo of Martin Murray and Matthew Macklin.
Eubank is not fazed by the daunting reputation of 'GGG' and suggests his son holds all the attributes needed to pull off a stunning victory.
"Every person we fight, a strategy or a style has to be used," said Eubank. "Golovkin is just another man.
"He wakes up in the morning just like junior. He has to brush his teeth, he has to have breakfast, he thinks, he feels. Junior is no different. With junior's imagination and his ability, his energy, that brilliance he has with that process of being a pressure fighter that he is… prove me wrong.
"Saunders, I don't even think about Saunders, because I don't have any ego about junior beating him because junior can, he just gave him the fight. I'm not worried about him.
"What we're concerned about is getting the guy who is premier and we're putting junior for Britain, for his family, in the stratospheric slipstream."
