Anthony Crolla can avenge his defeat against Jorge Linares in their rematch, says his British rival Derry Mathews.

The Mancunian suffered a points defeat to Linares after a thrilling battle in September, but can regain the WBA lightweight title in a return fight at Manchester Arena on March 25, live on Sky Sports.

Mathews shared two memorable battles with Crolla, winning the first with a stunning knockout before being held to a draw in the rematch, and expects his former opponent to produce an improved display against Linares.

"I think he beats Linares this time," Mathews told Sky Sports.

"The team might have got their tactics wrong last time, but this time I think Anthony will win. I think he will beat Linares.

"The fight took a lot out of Linares and Anthony will be fresher. He wins the rematch for me and then hopefully we get to see him versus Terry Flanagan."

Mathews suffered a points defeat to WBO champion Terry Flanagan in March and would like to see his conqueror share the ring with fellow Lancashire man Crolla in the near future.

"These fights have got to happen," said Mathews. "It's the same with Kell Brook and Amir Khan.

"All the big fights need to happen in Britain. That's why we are so successful, have so many world champions, because we are the best. Let's put the best fights on for the British public."
