Shannon Briggs is relishing the opportunity of attempting to secure the third world heavyweight title of his career against Fres Oquendo on June 3.
The 45-year-old is preparing to face Oquendo for the WBA 'regular' world heavyweight title at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Florida.
If he is successful against the 44-year-old, Briggs will become the second oldest fight to win the world heavyweight championship behind George Foreman and could put himself in the frame to face WBA 'super' champion Anthony Joshua.
"Fighting for the WBA heavyweight championship against Fres Oquendo is a wonderful opportunity and true privilege," said Briggs, who has previously held the lineal heavyweight title and WBO belt.
"Being able to fight at Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, in front of my hometown fans and right in my backyard is extremely exciting.
"I'm working very hard right now with some great sparring partners that are pushing me to the limit. Fight night will be a long one for Fres Oquendo.
"I want to dedicate this fight to my children, my family, all of my fans and to all of the people around the world who have suffered from depression.
"I'm living proof that you can make it. Don't give up. LET'S GO CHAMP!"
