Katie Taylor wants to make history when she takes on Anahi Sanchez

Katie Taylor says she is ready to make "history" when she takes on Anahi Esther Sanchez in her first professional world title fight next month.

The former Olympic lightweight champion, who remains undefeated since turning professional in 2016, will fight Sanchez on the undercard of Anthony Joshua vs Kubrat Pulev in Cardiff on October 28, live on Sky Sports Box Office.

Taylor will challenge the experienced Argentine for the WBA world lightweight belt in what is just the seventh fight of her pro career.

"I'm obviously very, very excited about it," Taylor told Sky Sports News. "This is something I've waited for since I turned professional.

"Ever since I turned pro I've wanted to be involved in big fights and big shows and this is the start of many world title fights, I hope.

"I'm definitely up against a tough opponent - she's a two-weight world champion - but I feel like I'm ready and I can't wait for it."

Buenos Aires-born Sanchez holds a record of 17-2-0, having won both the IBF and WBA lightweight belts during her career.

Taylor expects the 26-year-old Argentine to be the toughest opponent she has faced since turning pro.

"Without a doubt. This opponent Sanchez is very, very experienced," said Taylor. "She has a great record as well. She's had more world title fights than I've had fights really in the pro game so it is going to be a very tough challenge.

"I definitely feel like I'm ready. I've been working really hard and I've got a great team of people around me. I do want to make history in the sport, so this is just the start of it."

Watch Joshua vs Pulev, as well as a packed undercard, from the Principality Stadium, Cardiff, on October 28, live on Sky Sports Box Office.
