George Groves has confirmed he will have surgery on his injured shoulder on Monday but is still hopeful he will be fit to fight Callum Smith in July.
WBA super-middleweight champion Groves appeared to dislocate his shoulder in the final round of his unanimous decision victory over Chris Eubank Jr earlier this month and had to go straight to hospital after the fight.
The win over Eubank secured Groves a place in the World Boxing Super Series final against British rival Smith, who advanced to the final after a unanimous decision win over Nieky Holzken.
That was set to take place on June 2 but Groves will apply for a one-month extension to allow him time to recover from surgery.
Groves said on Twitter: "Morning boxing fans. This morning I go in for a minor operation on my injured shoulder. The good news is I'll be fit to fight in the final in July.
"We will be applying to the @WBSuperSeries for a one-month extension and are hopeful of securing this."
