Lucien Reid is part of an exciting crop of young fighters on this weekend's bumper O2 Arena bill and we have put the spotlight on the highly-rated super-bantamweight.

The 21-year-old east Londoner enjoyed a successful amateur career, winning a senior ABA elite 54kg title in 2013, but a painful defeat the following year ended his hopes of becoming a fully fledged member of Team GB.

After battling through to the 56kg final, Reid faced Qais Ashfaq and suffered a hard-fought points defeat against Team GB's No 1 super-bantamweight.

This setback forced Reid to reconsider his prospects in the unpaid ranks and he decided to turn professional with Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Sport.

"At my weight, it's massively competitive in the amateurs," Reid told Sky Sports. "I knew I was going to turn professional as soon as I didn't get into GB.

"The furthest I could go was winning a Senior ABA title again and then have to go for my third set of trials with Great Britain.

"It's starting at the bottom again and trying to work my way up. I was one of the highest profile amateurs who wasn't on Team GB, but now I feel like I've got a fresh start and I'm going to work as hard as I can."

He made his pro debut on May 30, joining some of Britain's biggest names such as Kell Brook, Anthony Joshua and Lee Selby on a bumper bill at the O2 Arena.

Reid returns to the same 20,000-seater venue for his second fight against Spaniard Samuel Escobar this weekend and he is hoping to attract new fans.

I'm an exciting fighter, I'm a puncher and as soon as you see me fight, you'll want to come and watch me again.

"Now I'm on this card with up and coming fighters like myself, Charlie Edwards and Louis Norman," he said.

"I'm an exciting fighter, I'm a puncher and as soon as you see me fight, you'll want to come and watch me again."

Nicknamed 'Lethal', Reid has set his sights on a new group of rivals and wants to make a swift rise up the rankings.

He said: "It's just picking up experience at the moment, but I'm looking at a few fighters that I could possible face for a title. I'm not giving any names, but they will know when I start coming for them.

"In a year's time, I want to be undefeated and I want a belt around my waist."

Lucien Reid is part of Saturday's bumper bill at the O2 Arena, topped by Anthony Joshua's Commonwealth heavyweight title clash with Gary Cornish, live on Sky Sports.
