The IBF world welterweight champion is currently 35-0-KO24 and takes on Diego Chaves on October 24 - live on Sky Sports Box Office - and having missed out on facing Mayweather is confident of erasing his name from the history books.

Brook, who was recently named in the top 10 pound-for-pound ratings, said: "It's brilliant to be recognised as one of the top 10 fighters in the world and the number one welterweight by Ring magazine.

Although few expect him to stay in retirement, Mayweather officially bowed out of the sport on Saturday night when he outpointed Andre Berto in Las Vegas.

With that victory, he drew level with the 60-year-old unblemished mark set by his fellow American Marciano, who dominated the heavyweight scene until his retirement in 1956 aged 32.

Julio Cesar Chavez holds the record for the longest winning streak in boxing, beating his first 87 opponents en route to world titles in three weight classes, before drawing with Pernell Whitaker in 1993.

The Mexican great fought on until 2005 and finished with a slate of 107-6-2.
