Kelly Morgan's WBC Convention blog: Fight night
Sunday 31 January 2016 14:58, UK
Boxer Kelly Morgan - one of the top five women middleweights in the world - is attending the WBC Convention in Tijuana, Mexico. The fourth instalment of her blog sees Kelly attend a boxing show, which included four world title fights, and reveal some big news on a future bout.
What a day! I have had it confirmed that my WBC middleweight silver championship title fight has been rubber stamped!
On March 12 in Swindon, I will have the privilege of being the headline fight on a mixed card, it's an unbelievable feeling. It's amazing, it's exciting and I know the WBC are looking forward to coming to the UK.
I just want to show the WBC how Britain does boxing! I am determined to give them a real good show and show them what British fighters are all about. Plus, if I win, I will be the mandatory challenger for the WBC world title, so that is all the motivation I need.
Today actually began with a training session with super-welterweight world champion Mikaela Lauren.
We started the session working on pads, I felt strong and sharp, and we ended with a body spar. It was a great way to begin the day, but soon after it was into the conference hall to hear about the open forum on challenges.
WBC chairman Malte Muller-Michaelis spoke about each weight division before allowing boxers and managers the opportunity to put forward their case to fight against specific opponents or for specific titles.
It was really interesting to hear Malte's thoughts on the middleweight division. He was really positive about the future and excited for my forthcoming fight, which is great to hear.
I also stepped up and revealed the trepidation I initially had coming on the trip here. In the past, I have found travelling away from home quite difficult. But I have been made to feel so welcome here and just had to say thank you to the WBC and all the other boxers for making me feel so at home.
This evening I went to a boxing show in Tijuana, which included four WBC title fights, three of which were female bouts.
Raja Amasheh successfully defended her silver flyweight championship belt. Raja has been a good friend to me this week, so I was especially pleased for her. The atmosphere at the event was electric, Mexicans really do love their boxing!
This trip has been a phenomenal experience and if it is possible to become more passionate about the world of female boxing, the warriors and hearts that share this sport then I am all for being here.
It's time to take my place in this sport, so please be with me every step of the way.
