Nicola Adams had little trouble in securing a points victory over Virginia Carcamo on her professional debut in Manchester.

The double Olympic champion started slowly but was well on top by the final bell, winning 40-36 on referee Steve Geary's card and setting up the chance to fight in front of her home fans in Leeds next month.

Carcamo, from Argentina, could not boast the amateur career Adams had, but she did at least have professional experience of fighting without a head-guard, having won four of her seven bouts.

She just about matched Adams in the opening two minutes, but the Briton looked much sharper in the second and started to land with regularity.

Carcamo was hurt by a long right in the third, but she managed to stay up and battled through to the end, at least forcing the fight to points.

Adams said: "I absolutely enjoyed every minute of it. I was a bit too eager to try and get the stoppage tonight because I wanted to entertain the crowd - but the girl was quite tough.

"It was a lot better [than amateur]. You can see more without the head-guard. It doesn't affect your vision so much so that's good - I loved it."

Straight after the fight, promoter Frank Warren confirmed Adams would be on his card at the First Direct Arena in Leeds on May 13.

He said: "I think it will be Nicola's first home fight since she was 13 so it will be a bit of a homecoming - it will be a special night and it is part of the process.

"After a couple of fights then we'll look and decide between us whether we feel we can go for a title."
