Jamie Moore hailed Jamie McDonnell's rematch victory over Tomoki Kameda as one of the best wins by a Briton in America.

The Doncaster bantamweight retained his WBA world title via unanimous decision - knocking down the Japanese challenger in the final round - and Moore emphasised the attitude and bravery shown in taking the rematch in the first place.

He told Sky Sports: "I think you've got to put it right up there. Definitely. He's not only gone over there and beat Kameda the first time, which was a fantastic win in its own right - I can't think of a British fighter who's gone back over there straight away and rematched a guy he's beaten.

"Nigel Benn and Lloyd Honeyghan - people like that didn't do it. You can talk about Ricky Hatton but he was already established over there. So was Lennox Lewis when he had his win over Evander Holyfield.

Some of the rounds were close but I felt that Jamie won the majority of the rounds quite big.

"Jamie has really come out and made a name for himself.

"Some of the rounds were close but I felt that Jamie won the majority of the rounds quite big. I felt he controlled the tempo and established a good, stiff jab. I felt he took Kameda's strengths away and pushed him on to the back foot.

"Jamie had a tight defence and blocked a lot of the shots. Don't get me wrong, Kameda was riding some of the jabs and blocking a lot of shots himself but for me, the sheer work-rate and tempo sealed it really.

"The first two rounds were close and could've gone either way but from the third round on, Jamie set a lovely tempo and decided to push him back. He negated anything Kameda was trying to do.

"It was definitely a knockdown. That shot landing on the side of his head was what initiated the weight switch, which made him slip. Without the shot landing, he wouldn't have been knocked down so it was definitely a knockdown.

"There was the odd person saying Kameda won but they seem to be from the USA. It's the same thing that happens with a lot of rematches - the same guy wins by a bit of a bigger margin. They pick up where they left off and McDonnell went in there with a lot of confidence.

"As soon as he started landing that jab and snapping Kameda's head back, Kameda went negative on to the back foot. He tried to do something different but seeing him hold told me that he'd run out of ideas.

"McDonnell maybe switched off a bit in the ninth round but on the whole, I think he did a terrific job."
