Nathan Cleverly tells us that he has beaten Tony Bellew once and he will beat him again

Nathan Cleverly insists he will not be intimidated by Tony Bellew’s home crowd and plans to silence his rival’s supporters with a repeat victory.

The Welshman defeated Bellew on points three years ago in Liverpool and returns to his opponent’s backyard for their rematch on November 22, live on Sky Sports Box Office.

There will be a sold out attendance at the Echo Arena, with most of the crowd likely to be roaring on Cleverly’s opponent, a proud Merseysider.

But he points to their past meeting as proof he can handle hostile territory and vowed to dish out a humbling defeat to Bellew - in front of his own support.

It won’t affect me. I’ve been there when I was 24 years of age, when I was defending my world title.

He told Sky Sports News HQ: “It won’t affect me. I’ve been there when I was 24 years of age, when I was defending my world title.

“I came out on top there, so I have more experience now at 27 years of age. I can deal with this.

“It was a sell-out capacity, the first fight when I was in town. It’s sold out again now I’m back there and I’m going to do a number on this guy, and I’m going to deal with it in emphatic fashion.”

Power

Bellew has picked up 22 wins with 14 of them coming inside the distance, but Cleverly is confident he can withstand his best punches.

He felt his foe’s power during the successful defence of his WBO light-heavyweight title and dismissed his hard-hitting reputation.

“His main asset is his punching power. At light-heavyweight, he caught me clean several times, it was no effect. At cruiserweight, he’s going to catch me clean, there’s going to be no effect.

“His power is being overestimated. They are making out he is this big knockout specialist. Yeah he hits hard, but it’s not going to be hard enough to take me out.”

A victory is expected to open the door for a world title shot and Cleverly believes WBO king Marco Huck could be lured to Britain.

“The real No 1 at the moment is Marco Huck,” he said: “He comes to fight and is an exciting fighter.

“Win this fight and we can set up a barnstormer with Marco Huck.

“He fights out of Germany a lot, but he makes it clear he would like to come to the UK to fight, so it could be a nice home fight for me.”
