Scott Quigg says he’s calm and focused ahead of his fight with Hidenori Otake.

Scott Quigg is expecting a ‘beast’ when he defends his WBA super bantamweight belt against Hidenori Ohtake.

The Bury fighter makes the fifth defence of his title against the Japanese challenger on this Saturday’s Cleverly v Bellew II undercard, live on Sky Sports Box Office.

Little is known about the 33-year-old Tokyo man, who has suffered just one defeat, but Quigg is preparing for an explosive encounter after studying brief footage of Ohtake.

“He is very highly regarded, highly respected by the governing bodies in the world," he told Sky Sports. The little bits of him I’ve seen on Youtube, he looks aggressive, come forward, very durable and has not lost since 2007.

“What I am expecting is a beast and that’s how I’ve trained.

“He’s going to come with a relentless pressure and whatever he brings tomorrow night, I’m going to have many answers for. I’m going to do the job and do it in style.”

The unbeaten champion has picked up 29 wins, with two draws, but his latest opponent has vowed to end his reign in dramatic fashion.

More from Cleverly V Bellew Ii

These brash words have been welcomed by Quigg, who is confident he can stay composed in a dogfight.

“He doesn’t look fazed being over here,” said the 26-year-old. “If the crowd tomorrow affects him that’s a bonus, but I’m not banking on it having an effect on him.

“He says he’s going for the knockout, but if he comes out swinging - I hope he does - because that will be his downfall. I’ll look for the gaps and I’ll exploit them.”
