Carl Frampton vs Scott Quigg: Leo Santa Cruz hopes to face winner
Saturday 20 February 2016 12:02, UK
Leo Santa Cruz says Carl Frampton's world title clash with Scott Quigg is too close to call, but hopes to face the winner.
The eagerly awaited super-bantamweight battle will see Frampton defend his IBF belt against WBA Super champion Quigg in Manchester on February 27, live on Sky Sports Box Office.
Santa Cruz previously held the WBC belt in the same division before stepping up to featherweight and will be keeping a close eye on his former rivals.
The Californian will defend his WBA Super featherweight title against Kiko Martinez next Saturday, just hours after Quigg-Frampton, and is willing to battle either man in the future.
"I see Carl Frampton vs Scott Quigg as a 50-50 fight," said the three-weight world champion. "It's a tough fight for both of them. I think whoever catches the other guy first will get the victory. They both can hit and they both have great skills. It could go either way.
"It's a very interesting fight between Frampton and Quigg. They've both been possible opponents for me and I hope that I do well that night and face the winner of that fight. I don't care who it is, I want to fight them."
Martinez has been handed a shot at Santa Cruz despite defeats against both Quigg and Frampton, with the Spaniard suffering a second-round stoppage to the Bury man in July.
Unbeaten champion Santa Cruz is also targeting a swift victory and hopes to halt Martinez by the third round.
"Martinez is a strong fighter who comes forward and always puts pressure on you," said Santa Cruz. "He never backs down and always comes to fight. That's what we like about this match-up - it makes for a more intense fight.
"We're going to give the fans an entertaining show. The fans are the ones who are going to win at the end of the night. I'm going to go out there and try to knock him out by the end of the third round."
