Golovkin vs Brook: Kell Brook enjoying family life ahead of big fight
Monday 5 September 2016 16:43, UK
Kell Brook looked relaxed in a dressing-gown as he spoke of the serenity of his training to face Gennady Golovkin on Saturday.
'The Special One' (36-0-KO25) welcomes the Kazakh (35-0-KO32) to The O2 - live on Sky Sports Box Office - and looked anything but daunted as he heralded the start of fight week by welcoming Johnny Nelson into his Sheffield home for an interview.
Brook, who weighed 167.8lbs at Friday's check-weight, told Sky Sports of his mood: "Normally coming into fight week I can't be around kids because when they start screaming I have to just run out of the room. I've got a lot more patience now. I'm eating very well.
"I'm relaxed coming into fight week because I know I've done the hard work, I'm fuelled up and I just can't wait. I'm counting the days down.
"I'm getting the fuel and I'm able to get 8-10 hours a night of sleep after a hard day's training. It's been a lot nicer to play about that stone.
"A lot of people are asking me about eating up to the weight but that's not the case obviously. We can't just go out and eat what we want. Everything is monitored and clean food but I'm coming down comfortably to make this weight. It shows you the size of me coming down to middleweight.
"I don't have to struggle as much. It's just about eating well and managing it. This last week, I won't be eating as much as I have been because I've been eating a lot of meals a day. The meals are going to get smaller and we're going to come down to the 160lb-limit comfortably."
Brook also revealed stepping up two weight divisions has allowed trainer Dominic Ingle, who also helped his legendary father Brendan Ingle guide Nelson's career, to take a less hands-on approach to cutting down to the limit.
Brook added: "Normally, Dominic gets you next to him in his house. To get to 147lbs, if you're tight on the weight then he's watching you but now I'm at home with my family because he knows I'm getting my rest. He's coming up and seeing me go to bed at 9pm or 10pm at night.
"It's the easiest he's had it training me. It's been a doddle to train me and he's left me with my family because I've been getting that extra energy from my kids and from Lindsey. He hasn't got to watch everything I do. It's been a joy to be here through this training camp.
"It's about sharpening the tools. We aren't doing many hard sessions. Everything will be short and sharp. A happy fighter is a strong fighter. We don't have to kill ourselves to make any kind of weight. Nothing dramatic is happening regarding training.
"I'm so excited the fans are getting the fight. They are getting the biggest fight possible. Everywhere I go, the fans are stopping me and wishing me well. I can see the excitement on their faces."
WBA Super, WBC and IBF world middleweight champion Golovkin arrived in the UK on Sunday.
