Golovkin vs Brook: Charlie Edwards ready to seize world title
Wednesday 7 September 2016 13:45, UK
Charlie Edwards is in no doubt he is ready to expose "slow" John Riel Casimero and become a world champion in just his ninth fight.
The 23-year-old from Epsom challenges the Filipino IBF world flyweight champion on the undercard of Gennady Golovkin v Kell Brook - live on Sky Sports Box Office - but is undaunted by what awaits.
Edwards said at Wednesday's press conference: "I've put my life and soul into this. I feel confident that I can do the business and I'm ready. I've looked at Casemiro and really believe I'm going to take that title off him. I'm going to introduce myself to the world scene on Saturday.
"It's all become real now I'm back in London. I eat, sleep and breathe boxing. I give it everything. I want to be a multi-weight world champion in the future. We focus on Saturday now. I'm saying this, Casemiro - that belt is staying in London.
"He's a very good fighter and a two-weight world champion. He can punch with both hands but I see a downfall in his feet, he is slow on them.
"I know with my awkwardness and trickiness and the way I hit and move. He's travelled all this way. When the jetlag sets in after round six - I go up a gear. Then he's in trouble."
Casimero's representative said of the visitor: "He appreciates the guts of Charlie Edwards. Casimero became a world interim champion in 13 fights so he appreciates Edwards' guts in aspiring to being a world champion.
"Casimero was involved in amateur boxing at an early age. He fought over 200 amateur fights. His experience has helped elevate him as a professional. I saw something in him that led me to believe he could be a world champion later."
Watch Edwards v Casimero on Gennady Golovkin v Kell Brook, live on Sky Sports Box Office from The O2, on September 10. Book the event via your Sky remote or online here.
