Golovkin vs Brook: Martin J Ward and Andy Townend full of respect for each other
Thursday 8 September 2016 17:22, UK
Martin J Ward and Andy Townend go to war on Saturday night but were full of respect for each other as the countdown to their fight began.
The pair are on the Golovkin v Brook undercard at The O2, live on Sky Sports Box Office on Saturday night, with the vacant British super-featherweight title up for grabs.
Local lad Ward is undefeated and 'The KO Kid' is heading down from Yorkshire. Both fighters hope to lift the British strap for the first time.
Townend believes it will be like winning a world title, while 'Wardy' promises to be first to the punch in what promises to be one of the fights of the night.
The pair's clash kickstarts a brilliant night of boxing in London, that also sees Kell Brook take on Gennady Golovkin, Lee Haskins defend his IBF bantamweight title against old foe Stuey Hall and Charlie Edwards looking to become a world champion in his ninth fight.
Ward and Townend are both on the rise but the one thing they will not lose is their respect for each other. At least until that first bell sounds...
