Brook vs Spence Jr: Danny Garcia is not sure Errol Spence Jr can deal with the pressure
Thursday 25 May 2017 13:26, UK
Danny Garcia believes Errol Spence Jr has the ability to beat Kell Brook but is not convinced he will be able to handle the pressure in his first world title fight.
The former WBC welterweight champion is the latest American star to side with 'The Truth' ahead of Saturday's Sheffield showdown, live on Sky Sports Box Office.
Floyd Mayweather, Sugar Ray Leonard, Keith Thurman, Shawn Porter and now Garcia are siding with the challenger and Spence Jr insists he will relish the Bramall Lane atmosphere.
But with Brook the current longest-standing welterweight title holder and Spence Jr boxing outside North America as a professional for the first time, Garcia fears it could prove too much for him.
"I think it is a good fight and I think it is a 50-50 fight," he told Sky Sports.
"I think the person with the better game plan is going to win. But it is a lot of pressure to go into someone's backyard like that.
"Spence has never faced a fighter in his prime before, like Brook.
"It is definitely a test for him and a big step up in competition. If he is ready, he can do it. He just has to go in there and stay focused."
Garcia, who lost his WBC title in a March unification fight with WBA holder Thurman, is ready to get back into 147lbs mix
Brook insists he has turned his loss to Gennady Golovkin into "one massive positive" ahead of his latest defence and the 29-year-old known as 'Swift' is in agreement.
"The welterweight division is the best division in boxing," said Garcia.
"I still feel like I am one of the best welterweights in the world even though I came up short.
"I never thought I would say a loss would make me stronger because I didn't see myself losing. I want my titles back and be seen as the best in the best division."
