Olympic silver medallist Michael Jamieson has had a taste of gold in a warm-up event for the Commonwealth Games.

Jamieson pipped Derby's Adam Peaty by just 0.11 seconds to retain his men's 200m breaststroke title at the British Gas International Swimming Meet in Manchester.

The 25-year-old Glaswegian now has his sights firmly on giving his home city something to cheer about at next month's
Commonwealth Games.

He clocked 2:11.89 in winning in Manchester, with Stirling's Ross Murdoch taking bronze in 2:12.17.

"It was a pretty slow time to be honest," admitted Jamieson, "But I've just been trying to go through the motions and think of it as a training session.

"My main job now is to rest up and make sure I'm fully ready for the Commonwealth Games."

Peaty, who won the 50m and 100m breaststroke titles at the same meeting earlier this week, is likely to be one of Jamieson's main medal rivals when they take to the water at Glasgow's Tollcross International Swimming Centre.

Roberto Pavoni retained his 400m Individual Medley title in a time of 4:21.80, while Bath's Jemma Barton took gold in the women's 200m butterfly ahead of Georgia Barton.

Other winners included Chris Walker-Hebborn, who retained his 100m backstroke title, Amy Smith, who took the women's 50m freestyle in 25.30 seconds, and Ben Proud, who took his second gold of the meet in the 50m butterfly.
