Britain’s Ben Swift sprinted to second place on stage three of the Settimana Coppi e Bartali in Italy as Team Sky team-mate Peter Kennaugh retained the overall lead.
Swift was looking for a second victory of the four-day race after his win on stage 1a, but was pipped to the line in Crevalcore by Cannondale’s Elia Viviani, with MG Kvis-Trevigiani’s Rino Gasparrini taking third.
Kennaugh followed in the peloton to maintain his 42-second advantage at the top of the general classification with just Sunday’s 10km individual time trial remaining.
The result was Viviani’s first win of the season, and Swift's third sprint podium of the week following his third place at Milan-San Remo last Sunday.
